An Icon of Weiser, Clifford’s Tavern, Closing Its Doors

On the corner of West 9th and Pioneer, a Weiser icon has been serving patrons since 1947.  A family-owned business, Clifford’s has been a Fiddler hotspot for decades, welcoming visiting Fiddlers from across the country and locals every summer during the Fiddle Festival.  Folks would gather in the quaint little drinkery to play music and have a good time.

For 73 years, the local watering hole has been a tradition for many people gathering to have a cold drink, spend time with friends, and enjoy great music.  Ranchers, farmers, and cowboys also frequented the establishment, enjoying the hospitality and relaxed atmosphere.  One regular recalled an old John Wayne cardboard cutout that used to sit inside the bar where people would circle around to take a picture.  It was a fun memory for folks until someone drove through the bar wall and destroyed the cutout.  Oops!  At least that made for another unique memory!

When the announcement was made on social media, folks were sad to hear of the plans for closing Clifford’s.  “So sad.  Sorry to hear this.  I spent a lot of time there in my day,” said one gal.  “Many fun memories with good friends in that place!” said another.  Locals and Fiddler’s will especially miss this Weiser relic.

The bar industry has taken an enormous hit this year, ravaged by the COVID-19 pandemic.  Bars have been forced to close temporarily, limit numbers to strict levels, and add extra rules for social distancing.  2020 proved to be too much for Clifford’s Tavern, along with many other businesses struggling in the world today.

November 29th, 2020 will be their last day of service.  Stop by this weekend and give a farewell to Clifford’s Tavern.
