As Saturday, October 21, the date of this year’s 7th annual Rush Creek Stampede, draws closer, we would like to share more details about race-day logistics.  For those who may not know, this year’s Stampede consists of two races—a 5K (3.1 miles) and a half-marathon (13 miles), both run along the scenic and peaceful Rush Creek Road just outside of Cambridge, with the half marathon finishing back at the elementary school.  It is sponsored each year by the Upper Country Education Foundation as a fund raiser for our local schools and their children, and has become a fun and healthy community event as well!
As of this writing, 122 registrants have signed up for either the 5K or the half-marathon. And, with still over a week-and-a-half to go until race day, we’re hoping to have even more participants sign up for this exciting fall activity.  Walkers and runners alike are welcome in both events. Those who would like to register online, may do so at www.runsignup.com .  Or, if you prefer, you may pick up paper registration forms at either of the two Cambridge school offices.
As in the past, both the 5K and the half-marathon will start on Rush Creek Road, with buses providing transportation for race participants from Cambridge Elementary School to the beginning of Rush Creek Road.  The 5K has an out-and-back finish there, with participants riding a bus back to school. The half-marathoners will loop back past the starting point and end their race back at the school, where they will have many friends and fellow racers cheering them on as they pass the finish line.  Both races will be chip-timed.
There will be water stations every 2.0 miles along the lovely Rush Creek half-marathon loop, with one of those water stops at the 5K turn-around, all manned by enthusiastic local volunteers cheering on the racers.
On race day, participants should park in the Cambridge Elementary or High School parking lot.  They can then register or pick up their race bags, with t-shirts, numbers and chips, inside the elementary school between 8:00 and 10:00AM.  Participants in the 5K and half-marathon can then take a bus to the start line on Rush Creek Road.  The half-marathon starts at 9:30AM, and the 5K starts at 9:45AM.
After each event, participants will receive awards and enjoy a terrific selection of homemade soups, drinks and desserts, prepared and served by another group of friendly local volunteers.  This meal is provided for the racers compliments of the Weiser River Cattle Association again this year.  Non-participants are also invited to join us for lunch, at a cost of $8.00, between 12:30 and 2:00PM.
Race t-shirts, with this year’s all-new design and color, will also be available for non-participants, at a cost of $20.  This year’s shirt is short-sleeved, in a navy digital-camo wicking fabric, with green lettering.
Once again, Shu’s Idaho Running Company is generously donating prizes for the top 3 male and female finishers in both the 5K and half-marathon.  Medals for the top 3 racers in each age category in both races will be provided by the Upper Country Education Foundation.
If you have any questions about the race, or would like to volunteer to help out on race day, please contact: Stacey Ertel, 550-2884; Rebecca Crosby, 550-4259; or Barbara Ertel, 257-3491.
Again, many thanks to all of our generous sponsors, and to our local communities as a whole for your continued and enthusiastic support over the years!  Hope to see you there!!
