Surviving Hearts, a volunteer organization dedicated to helping cancer patients and their families, is pleased to announce that $15,750 was raised from the fourth annual Evening at the Willows on Sept. 9 near Weiser.  This year’s Evening at the Willows generated more funds than previous events.  In the last four years. Surviving Hearts has raised nearly $40,000 toward construction of the Respite House.

The event featured a steak dinner, live music, live auction and silent auction items in a casual environment at The Willows, a lovely ranch on Mann Creek north of Weiser.  Funds benefit cancer patient assistance and the Respite House, a proposed “home away from home” for patients seeking treatment at St. Luke’s Mountain States Tumor Institute (MSTI) in Fruitland.

The gala event was sponsored by The Willows, St. Luke’s, Agri Beef Co., Acme Bake Shop, Starkey Spring Water, Living in the News and SS Photography and Design.

Surviving Hearts has also raised thousands of dollars for their patient assistance program, which includes the purchase of gas cards, food gift cards, and gift bags for MSTI cancer patients. More than 100 gift bags were distributed in the last several months.  The Surviving Hearts efforts are greatly appreciated by the patients.  The group also helps with Christmas gifts for families of cancer patients.
