It’s that time of year again and our local Weiser version of Toys for Tots has been busy getting ready for the most wonderful time of the year. You may recall last year we introduced you to Mike and Malissa Campbell, who with Campbell's parents Brenda and Jim Shelby, took over the local program back in 2011.  A family legacy that began in 1987 with Campbell's grandfather Kenny Nelson. Weiser’s Toys for Tots has been giving to the children of the community for thirty years.

Weiser’s Toys for Tots raises money year round for local children to receive gifts for Christmas. The funding is raised through different activities throughout the year like the bikers poker run, action, and a gun raffle which is currently underway. This years auction raised around $4,200. Campbell stated that, “About eighty percent of the items auctioned was community donated. Everyone goes above and beyond, even the people who come out and spend the money on the auction items are awesome. I mean we had an old King's special $39.99 rocking horse that was donated and was sold for $180. The community is just amazing. I keep telling people we live in an amazing community!” Campbell shared that so far this year they have been able to raise a little over $5,000, “That will serve around 100 to 120 kids, depending on how good we do on buying stuff. We will do as many kids as we can until we run out of funds or time.”

As you can imagine that would be a lot of gifts to wrap.Campbell shared that they usually wait until they have enough gifts lined up to do a three to four hour wrapping session and it can take up to three days to get everything wrapped and ready, “Malissa and my mom do all the wrapping and separating. They get them all tagged and bagged so that people can start picking them up. Last year we did 115 kids and I know Malissa personally wrapped over 400 presents last year.”

Weiser’s Toys for Tots is still accepting names of eligible children, you can contact Brenda at Quality Auto 208-549-2541 or Campbell at 208-550-0066. They will need the child's name, gender, age, address, and a phone number. Toys for Tots welcomes donations any time of the year and if you want to get in on the gun raffle you will need to act quick, Campbell stated that there were only 50 tickets left. With a community as wonderful as ours, Weiser’s Toys for Tots will last for another thirty years or more.
