I don’t know if this will make it into the newspaper, since the usual deadline for the paper was Monday, but Monday was Christmas.  I was out sick again on the Friday before so there was no chance of me writing it ahead of time.   It seems as though I have whatever virus has been making the rounds amongst us.  I was mildly bummed that I missed Ursula’s Pizza on Friday, but it couldn’t be helped and the center had lots of guests for dinner that night,  so I wasn’t even missed.
I’m looking forward to 2018 and good health, again.   I’m not going to make any New Year’s resolutions, but I do want to focus on being healthy!  Since I had cancer two years ago, I sort of lost my way a little bit.  I wasn’t as active as I had been and in my heart of hearts, I think I was depressed to some degree.
I had cancer, yes, but it was just a teensy speck and in my mind, it hardly qualified me to be a cancer survivor.  That designation belonged to someone else who had a major battle and survived.  How could I, with a little speck, be lumped together with those who had a major diagnosis’ of the disease.  So I felt like a fraud, but I pushed through anyway like I always do.  I never allowed myself the time to really take care of me.
So, 2018 is a year for me. To take care of myself.  To be as kind to me as I would be to anyone else.  If any of what I’ve said has resonated with you, I hope you will join me in figuring out how to take better care of yourself  in this coming New Year.  After all, You are the only You that you have.
Our First shopping trip in the New Year will occur on Tuesday, January 9th.  I will have a signup sheet on the front table.  The trip is free if you are over 60 and $10 if you are under 60.
Your new Board members will be installed at the first Board meeting of 2018, which will be on Wednesday, January 3rd at 10:30 here at the center.  I will announce the new board positions at our meal later that same day.  We changed the date of the board meeting to the first Wednesday of the month just for this one meeting.  One of the new board members wasn’t going to be available when we normally have our meeting, so the decision was made to switch the date.
On Friday, December 29th at 5:30, we are going to have Tomato soup, grilled cheese sandwiches, salad, pears and dessert.  On Wednesday, January 3rd @ Noon Ursula is serving baked ham, scalloped potatoes, peas, rolls, salad and pineapple dump cake.  Then, Friday, January 5th @ 5:30 Dorito pie is on the menu, with sour cream, guacamole and salsa, salad, peaches and dessert.
I wish all of you, a Safe and Happy New Year’s Celebration.  See you in 2018!
