On Tuesday, March 27th at the Rural Health Conference in Spokane, Washington, Dr. Tobe Harberd was awarded Washington States, 2018 Outstanding Rural Health Practitioner. Dr. Harberd is a 1997 Weiser High graduate and the son of Jim and Darla Harberd of Weiser.

Dr .Harberd has practiced family medicine for the Lake Chelan Clinic in Chelan, Washington for the last 10 years. This facility provides the opportunity for University of Washington School of Medicine students to learn from established medical professionals, of which Dr. Harberd is an active role model.

The memorial award recognizes the late Dr. John Anderson, MD who practiced medicine in Cle Elum, Washington for 33 years and was a leader in developing a system to help healthcare providers have the opportunity to work in rural areas of Washington State. According to the Washington Rural Health Association, nominations for this award are based on “the demonstrated leadership skills and the dedication to provide quality healthcare services to rural communities.”
