The Weiser Police Department Afterschool Program gets a boost into the future of Robotics thanks to the generosity of the Weiser Elks Lodge #1683. Gerald Barnard and Quincy Walla presented a check in the amount of $1,780.00 to the Chief Carl Smith and his After-School Coordinator Steve Fenske for the purchase of robotics equipment and trainers for the Summer Program.
John Mandujano, a long-time member, now Mentor at the After-School Program suggested the robotics teachings to Mr. Fenske. Inspired by the idea applied for a grant through the Elks Lodges as part of Summer Program.
Steve Fenske commented that, “Robotics in schools can help these students turn their boredom and frustration into creativity and innovation. I see their creativity and innovation with the Lego blocks at the program and can only imagine what their capable of building with this type of program. This is a valuable life lesson that teaches young people perseverance and determination when faced with challenges. I believe the kids learning robotics are able to channel their frustration into trying harder and aiming higher. In addition, it encourages 21st Century learning, develops computational thinking skills and builds teamwork and comradery.”
