I think our first ever Chili and Cornbread feed was a success.  We served around 60 people and everyone seemed to enjoy tasting and voting for the Chili of their choice.  The Chili entrants were:  Dinah Wells, Jeff Atteberry, Jack Coburn, Janice Cawyer, Lynda Yoder, Sandy Nudo, Linda Whitlatch, Charlie Caruso and Lorraine Farrens.
Everyone had their own spin on their Chili.  Dinah Wells made a deep rich tasting Chili, Jack Coburn  had a mild “cumin” tasting chili, Jeff Atteberry made two pots of deer chili one with green chilies added and one without.  Lynda, brought in a white chicken chili with lime and cilantro on the side while Linda Whitlatch had a “Taco Chili” complete with Doritos’s on the side.  Charlie’s fare was mild with mushrooms even. So many different types, it was hard to choose.
My Chili was a bit on the spicy side and Lorraine Farrens was a milder chili.  It was hard to choose, but the people have spoken:  Dinah Wells and I tied for first  and  Jack Coburn came in second.  Jacks chili ran out halfway through so If he had brought more chili, he might have won.
Thank you to all of you who participated in this fun event by making your favorite chili to share with us and our guests.  Thank you to Elsie and Jack Coburn, Gen Fisk, Sheila Zundel, Pat Davenport, Charlie Caruso, Linda Whitlatch and Sherry Plumb who worked serving small cups for tasting, refilling the condiments, and cleaning up afterwards. Would we do it again?  You betcha, it was that much fun!
We also started another fund raiser that evening, it is selling raffle tickets for a Sturgeon, Bass and Trout Fishing Charter in Hells Canyon.  Hells Canyon Adventures has once again donated a half day fishing trip for four people.  It’s good for anytime during the Summer-Fall 2018 fishing season.  The tickets are $5 each or 5 tickets for $20.  What a fun trip for the fisherman or woman in your life plus friends.
You can purchase the tickets here at the senior center or you can call me at 208-257-3358 and I can find someone close to you or mail them to you.  We aim to please.  Who knows, you might just be the lucky one who wins this fishing trip for four people.  The Drawing will be held on Wednesday, June 6th, right after lunch.  The winner will be notified immediately after.
This Wednesday, April 18th is our monthly food pantry.  Ursula will be serving Fish and Chips that day along with a salad, rolls, green beans and magic cookies.  The pantry will be open right after the dishes are done.  Friday, April 20th we are serving Spaghetti with meat sauce, garlic bread, salad, mixed fruit and dessert.
Wednesday, April 25th Fried Chicken dinner is on the menu with mashed potatoes, gravy, coleslaw, rolls, peas or beets and Carrot Cake.  Friday, April 27th we are having clam chowder, turkey sandwiches, salad, apricots and dessert.
Have a great week everyone.  I hear that by the weekend, it’s supposed to be close to 70 degrees.  I can hardly wait!
