Thanks to the collaborative efforts of two munificent entities and a compassionate gathering of volunteers, approximately 350-375 families in our overwhelmed community are seeing sunshine coming through their kitchens.
On Wednesday, January 25th, a semi truck loaded with 16 pallets of food, adding up to 23,000 pounds of hope arrived from the Idaho Food Bank in Boise. In coordination with WICAP,and the Weiser Senior Community Center, the cupboard of those families affected by the recent circumstance of events surrounding us, distributed boxes of foodstuffs, including 13 pounds of meat, 10 pounds of bread, milk, and cereal, just to name an iota,
to grateful carloads of those in need.
One of the greatest concerns of those who arranged the
project was that of hungry little tummies! With the children being home, due to extended “Snow Days, “ as well as the inaccessibility to groceries, pantries can deplete rapidly. Parents are now breathing easier!
The logistics of the day; potential problems such as traffic control, parking and man power were all made with ease by the generosity of approximately 100 volunteers from as far away as Boise, Payette and Ontario. Local law enforcement including the WPD, as well assistance from members of COPS kept the “Drive Through” traffic flowing smoothly,
all in an expedient and timely manner.
The Idaho Food Bank, WICAP and all of those involved are not only grateful to those who devoted their time, their empathy and their concern for the benefit of a population in need of support, but are encouraged by the optimism that the simple gesture of an outreached hand can create!
