Idaho Shakespeare at Weiser High School

Article By Barbara Huck.     Photos By Bob Barber

“Lord, what fools these mortals be!”
Weiser Little Theater hosted “Shakesperience” at Weiser High School April 4, 2017. Idaho Shakespeare Festival’s Education Program brought six actors to perform an abbreviated production of “Midsummer Night’s Dream”, one of Shakespeare’s most popular plays. The Festival productions are noted for staging plays in more contemporary settings such as 1920-s gangster era or 1960’s hippies.  To catch and keep the attention of the students, this group had the story set as – – – – – high school students! Through the troupe’s superb acting skills, the audience was able to to follow the abbreviated story line. With a fast pace, spot-on characterizations and innovative use of properties, they brought the romance, madcap comedy and magic transformations to life!

After the entire student body viewed the performance, twelve students and three Weiser Little Theater board members attended a workshop with the actors.  After a strenuous round of breathing, stretching and articulation exercises, a quick session of Q & A gave insight into the aspirations of these actors and training required to be a part of such an illustrious group.
