Letter to the Editor- Christina Marie Stanley

Dear Editor
It’s been a while since I have had the opportunity to attend a Weiser City Council meeting and have missed that privilege.

As usual, the November 14th, 2022, city council meeting was sparsely attended, but we saw a couple of new faces. New faces that were unaware of how the city council meetings are run. City council meetings do not allow for public comment or questions. Only those with business on the agenda are allowed to comment except in special circumstances and with permission from the council.

The agendas for city council meetings are posted in advance on the city website or you can pick up a copy at the city offices. If there is an issue that you have a comment about, or want clarification, you are free to contact city council members before the city council meeting.

Public hearings are where you are allowed to comment and ask questions. When there is an issue such as land use, zoning, and large expenditures, a public hearing is held. Notice of public hearings are posted on the city website and published in our local paper.

On December 19th , 2022 a public hearing will be held for the proposed comprehensive plan for Weiser. A copy of the proposed plan can be obtained from the city offices. It was recommended that I obtain a copy of this plan and come to the hearing with comments and questions on how these proposed changes will affect me and my family. I was also encouraged to have my friends and neighbors do the
same. This plan was written by an outside firm at a great expense to our city, so I am anxious to see if our tax dollars were well spent and what outsiders think are good ideas for Weiser.

Regards,
Christina Marie Stanley
