Respected Editor,
The City of Weiser is kicking my sister out of her only affordable housing for her and her animals. My sister has lived in a travel trailer on our parent’s property (in two different locations in Weiser) for over 7 years and the building inspector is requiring my sister to remove her trailer. She only receives SSI and can’t get an apartment, due to the number of emotional support animals/service animals.
The trailer is too old for a trailer park. She doesn’t have the income to move it anywhere or get a newer trailer that can get into a trailer park. She can’t drive due to her disability. The state of the economy is preventing those on disability and many others from affording affordable housing. What is she supposed to do?
How can the city of Weiser make a disabled person homeless!? They don’t care about people if that’s the case. This issue needs to be reversed or help her get sustainable housing with her animals. Kicking someone out in the middle of winter is cold and heartless.
Our family are all low income and have no way to help her financially or have space for her with her 5 animals. There is sewer and power to the unit and she hauls water in. It has worked for her for over 7 years. So why now are they doing this to her? This is her last place she can go to with her animals. Her animals are medically necessary, so she will not get rid of them. Â They are threatening our parents $100 per day if the trailer isn’t moved. Our parents are disabled and elderly and are on a fixed income. They own their own home and property.
My sister owns her travel trailer. It was given to her as a gift, so she wasn’t homeless. Our parents did this for her so she wasn’t homeless, but our mom is allergic to her huskies. The yard and unit isn’t an eye sore or a mess. Our father takes good care of the yard. Due to the snow in the backyard, it would be difficult to move it, however she has nowhere to move it even if they could figure out how to move it. They have until February 13th, 2022 to remove it.
Sincerely, J. Murray
