New Director Of The Weiser Public Library Has Been Chosen

After reviewing many qualified and excellent applications for the position of Weiser Public Library Director, the board has made their decision. Timbra Long of Weiser has accepted the offer as the new Library Director and will begin her new position June 1st , 2021.


The Director is responsible for making professional decisions and holding responsibility of implementing improvements to the public library and their programs. Long was chosen because of her extensive resume of experience and qualifications that made clear she was the best choice to fill the position. The Director is responsible for preparing and managing the budget, managing library staff, planning, and technology improvements among many other essential tasks.

Anyone who knows Timbra Long can recall what an amazingly energetic and happy person she is! Currently, Long is a Fruitland High School art teacher and teaching has been a large part of her life for many years. As she prepares for her new position as director, she is excited to be starting a job she has dreamed about for a long time.


For 20 years, Long has been an art teacher and has taught in multiple countries around the world including Albania, China, and the Middle East. Long was born in Idaho and graduated from the University of Idaho with a graphic design degree. She also has a teaching and library degree. She was inspired by coworkers and mentors to apply for a position overseas and accepted her first job in Qatar, a country in the Middle East. In 2009, Long flew from Ethiopia to Beijing, China to pick up her son, whom she had adopted. Now in Middle School, her son desired to be in Weiser, which they call home.

Thrilled to be starting a new chapter in her life, Long shared that she is excited about joining as director of the library. She has spent time on the board of directors and is honored to be chosen for this position. She, along with the board, have great plans in the works for the library. Long plans to extend the hours of the library this year and bring more people in to utilize our great library resource. Long loves to connect with people and she has hopes of starting book groups and children’s groups as well. Technology improvements are also on her list of possibilities. The board is confident that the right person has been selected for the director position and Long will do an exceptional job.


Long shared, “I took all the lessons and values I learned growing up in Weiser with me when I moved overseas, and I brought back lessons about the different parts of the world that will help with this new job.” She also thanks all of her friends and community members who have supported her along the way. Also, a special shout-out to Melissa and Charlotte and Friends of the Library for being so wonderful and accepting. Long is especially grateful to the ladies who have cheered her on.
