Larry Donald Rhodes
May 1st, 1939 - September 15th, 2017
Larry Donald Rhodes passed away suddenly on September 15, 2017 from a tragic accident. He was
born on May 1, 1939 in Cambridge Idaho to Kenneth Donald Rhodes and Marie Elizabeth Marti Rhodes.
He grew up in Cambridge and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1958. He loved sports and was
a star basketball player during his school years and all his life he followed his numerous favorite college
teams. He lived a quiet life and enjoyed family and being outdoors. He was always going out fishing or
hunting and then looking forward to the next fishing or hunting trip. Larry also took up the “hobby” of
getting firewood every summer and would not be satisfied unless he had 20 or more cords at all times in
storage. He would say “Let’s take a drive up to the mountains” and if you glanced in the back of the
truck you saw a chainsaw and fishing poles for the supposed “drive” and knew there was going to be
work involved in the drive.
Larry started working at Tamarack Sawmill soon after high school and for 48 years would drive the 45
minutes there and back no matter the weather, sometimes heading out in the mornings before the
snow plows had even cleared the highways. Larry was a true and good man, a quiet man that loved
being around family. He had two children, Doug and Lisa, with his first wife, Betty Schell, and his house
became the home where his kids and all their friends would gather as they grew up. Larry married
Nanette Truelsen in 1990 and he became dad to her two children, Circe and Shane McDaniel, and again
became the home where kids gathered. Larry loved sharing his knowledge of the outdoors with kids
and teaching them to hunt and fish. Later when all the kids were finally grown and had families of their
own, he had another generation to teach. Larry was blessed with 8 grandchildren and 2 great
Larry is survived by his wife, Nanette Rhodes, his daughter Lisa Rhodes (Tabb Kennedy), grandson Jake
Kennedy (Kari Loeffler), granddaughter Kaila Gibson and great- grandson Landon Gibson, his son Doug
Rhodes, grandson Taylor Rhodes, granddaughter Ashlee Rhodes and great-granddaughter Skyler
Rhodes, step-daughter Circe McDaniel (Bob Saber), step-grandchildren James Moretto and Megan
Thomas, step-son Shane McDaniel (Amanda McDaniel) and grandchildren Brianna and Nathan
McDaniel, and his sister, Carmen Scheel, and numerous nieces. He was preceded in death by both of his
parents and his only great-nephew.
Larry wanted no services. He wanted his ashes scattered in his favorite place in the mountains with
just his wife and kids present.
