Dick (Richard C.) Smith

June 27th, 1935 - March 18th, 2018

Dick Smith, a local rancher with the reputation of having one of the finest Hereford herds in the area, passed away Sunday morning, March 18, 2018, as he was headed out to feed the cattle with his hired man Steve.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, March 22, at 2:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery in Weiser, ID.
Dick was born June 27, 1935 to Claude (Ted) Smith and his wife Bernice Wollen Smith. Dick’s grandparents Richard J and Polly bought the ranch in 1900.  The ranch was farmed by the Smith family continually for three generations, all told that amounts to a span of 118 years.
In his youth Dick was very active in FFA and always raised a prize winning Hereford steer.  He loved to entertain the extended family on the 4th of July with his fireworks show on the front yard of the ranch house.
Dick was a member of the Rural Fire Department Board of Directors for 53 years.  He made grandfather clocks for each of his aunts.  These clocks have been passed down to the next generation with the passing of his mom’s sisters.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Bernie Smith.  He is survived by his hired man Steve and Debbie Hust plus cousins from the Smith side of the family and from the Wollen side of the family.
