The Lifeguard Life by Quincy Clary

As the weather begins to heat up and the air becomes hotter, it’s the perfect time for swimming. The Weiser Memorial Pool had a tough time finding enough teens for being lifeguards this season. But we managed! With 11 new guards trained and ready, we are prepared.

Not only do the guards have to have the ability to swim on their own, but also have the responsibility of saving a life when needed too. May 26th, 27th and 28th were the in person training days for the lifeguard class. A total of 28.5 hours in the pool with hot rays of sunshine. Asides from the learning in person days, the lifeguards also had an online class portion as part of their graduation requirement. With the help of teacher Aimee Wootton, 11 new guards passed their written and skills test. Every guard at the Weiser Memorial Pool is certified with CPR/AED for professional rescues, first aid and lifeguarding. This certification lasts for 2 years and is able to be renewed after the expiration.

Being a lifeguard at the Weiser Memorial Pool is not only being a good swimmer. But being observant for everyone in and outside of the pool. Lifeguards are on constant watch duty for all possible risks of danger. The lifeguards will pursue the mindset of keeping everyone safe, preventing risks and having a fun swim season this summer. We hope to see your smiling faces this summer!
