Project coordinator Kimberly Burgess recently announced the winners of the 2022 WMH Foundation Healthcare Scholarship. This year’s winners are Helan Hill of Midvale High School and Aline Cortez currently of University of Idaho!
Aline Cortez graduated from Weiser High School in 2019. While doing a search for scholarship opportunities for the upcoming school year, Cortez came across the WMH Foundation Healthcare Scholarship and decided to apply. “I believed that I was a strong candidate to represent the values and principles of this foundation. Applying to this scholarship gave me the opportunity to continue my post-secondary education and represent my hometown at the University of Idaho,” Cortez shared. She is currently pursuing a degree in Exercise Sport and Health with an emphasis in Athletic Training. “Growing up in a small town as a student athlete allowed me to see our need for Sport Medicine. This is why after graduation I plan to use my degree as a way to help student athletes in rural communities such as Weiser,” she also commented.
When asked who her biggest role model has been, she said, “my mom has definitely been my biggest supporter and role model along the way! She has worked hard to support my siblings and me. I am thankful for this support and hope to make her proud with all that I do.”
Helan Hill is currently a senior at Midvale High School, graduating on May 27th, 2022. “I decided to apply for this scholarship because I have always wanted to go into the medical field,” Hill shared. Hill is interested in the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology and plans to work on achieving a Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences with a pre-medical focus. After graduating this month, her plans are to attend Montana Technological University in Butte, Montana.
Hill shared that her father has been her role model because he has always encouraged her to follow her dreams. “My father has always pushed me to do my best.”
The WMH Foundation Healthcare Scholarship is designed to help fund the education of students who seek healthcare-related education. The 2023 scholarship will be open for applicants beginning March 1st through April 28th with winners being announced in early May of 2023. This is a great opportunity for students to plan ahead and add this scholarship to their list of possibilities. The Foundation plans to award twice as many scholarships next year as they anticipate the program to grow, according to Burgess.
