18th Annual Drive to Survive

The Rose Advocates had their 18th Annual Drive to Survive Golf Tournament up at Rolling Hills golf course over the weekend. This years event had sixteen teams that participated. The cost per team was $250 and business sponsors paid $150 a hole. All proceeds raised went directly to victim services.
This years tournament was very important for the Rose Advocates, Mrs. Dolores Larson shared that federal funding was cut this year in the amount of $58,000, “This event is a big part of our budget. It’s huge for our organization because of the cuts made this year. $58,000 is a huge cut for us. This is the first year in nineteen years that I had to lay an employee off, because of the funding cut. It just broke my heart, just literally broke my heart. I hate that, because my staff needs their jobs. I never dreamt that the cut would be so big. So these fundraiser are so important to us.”
The Rose Advocates program runs out of six counties including: Adams, Boise, Gem, Payette, Valley, and Washington counties. With offices in all six areas. Federal funding only covers so much and the monies are only allotted to certain things. The Rose Advocates have three events every year to help buffer cost with their Soup Bowl in February, the Annual Drive to Survive in August , and their dinner in October. These events go towards victim services for things such as: emergency hotel stays, medications, emergency relocation, transportation, and helping victims to get set up in new living arrangements.
Larson shared that the golf tournament was a lot of fun and they served hot dogs and sausages all day for the participants. The Rose Advocates would like to say thank you to all who participated: Falls Brand, Cada Brand, Payette County Sheriff Department, Putt Pirates, Wonder Wackers, Par Tee On, Masingill Law, Ameri Title, Adkins/Walker, Bouvia, Miller Time, Nick Adams, Hometown Motors, The Insurance Group, Weiser City Police Department, and 5 Star Disaster Clean up.
