The Elks have been challenging kids for about 50 years through their Hoop Shoot free throw program which allows boys and girls aged 8 to 13 the opportunity to participate in a fun program.
Kolt Harrison of Weiser recently participated in the District Hoop Shoot at Nampa Christian High School on January 21st, 2023 where he won and qualified for the State Hoop Shoot. The State Hoop Shoot takes place on February 11th, 2023, in Kellogg, Idaho where Kolt will be competing next. The talented 8-year-old, son of Lorraine and Tom Harrison, is excited to be representing Weiser and the Elks.
The winners of the State Hoop Shoot will go to the regional Hoop Shoot in Pasco, Washington. The winners there will go on to compete in the National Competition in Chicago, Illinois on April 22, 2023.
Director of the local hoop shoot, Darrel Krause, shared that he is most proud of the ability of the Elks to pay for all the expenses of attending these events. For example, Kolt, his parents, and siblings receive free lodging for two nights in Kellogg plus a banquet and $200 for gas and other expenses when they travel for the State competition. All of the winners from other districts, regions, and states are also paid for by their local Elks. This program helps pave the way for success in these student’s school years and years to come. What a special event to be a part of!
