Driver Rescued After Vehicle Enters Canal on Weiser River Road

At approximately 8:30 PM (August 26th, 2023), a driver veered into a canal along Weiser River Road due to sun glare, resulting in a single-vehicle accident. The incident occurred as the driver was traveling westward and was momentarily blinded by the sun, leading to loss of control and the subsequent collision. The driver became trapped inside the vehicle following the accident.

Upon receiving the distress call, Washington County Deputy Newbold immediately leaped into the canal to rescue the trapped driver. The prompt and decisive action of Deputy Newbold played a crucial role in preventing a potentially worse situation.

Eyewitness at the scene reported that the driver had not been driving at excessive speed nor exhibiting erratic behavior prior to the accident. Remarkably, the vehicle’s airbags did not deploy upon impact. Despite the initial shock of the incident, the driver appeared to have avoided obvious injuries.

Washington County Ambulance arrived at the scene to provide medical assessment and attention to the driver. Fortunately, no severe injuries were evident, and the driver’s overall condition is reported to be good.

The collaborative efforts of the Weiser City Police and Weiser Fire District are very supportive, contributing their expertise to help at this accident.

Such incidents underscore the importance of vigilance and the need for drivers to adapt their driving behaviors to changing environmental conditions.
