Oregon Trail STOL (Short Takeoff and Landing) Competition at the Ontario Municipal Airport

John Breidenbach, President and CEO of the Ontario Area Chamber of Commerce, took to the skies—well, almost—during a visit to the Oregon Trail STOL (Short Takeoff and Landing) Competition at the Ontario Municipal Airport.

Breidenbach had the chance to chat with local aviation enthusiasts, starting with Jeff Whiteley, who was competing for the second time this year in the Backcountry Class with his Experimental Cessna 175. Whiteley, an experienced pilot, showcased the precision and skill needed to master short takeoff and landing, which are essential in backcountry flying. Afterward, the pair caught up with Kyle Bushman, another standout competitor flying “The Boss,” a Backcountry Supercub. Bushman has been turning heads in the Touring Class with his impressive performances in a unique plane, adding excitement to an already thrilling event.

This competition highlights the Ontario Municipal Airport as a prime location for STOL events, with its facilities and environment proving ideal for these skilled pilots and their aircraft.
