Midvale Tree Lighting Ceremony

By Elsa Freeman

Several years ago, B.J. Whitener, of Midvale, decided that the town needed some Christmas decorations. So, she made a plan and with the help of family and friends and some donations from the community, she created a winter wonderland in this little town, with a lovely tree lighting ceremony. Every year it has gotten bigger and better, however it has been lots of work and expense. We owe B.J. our gratitude for making this happen. She is not available to do the decorating this year, and there was concern that Midvale’s Christmas lighting wouldn’t happen.Well, it was time for the community to step up and make sure that this wonderful tradition continues.Kevin Hooper, of the Midvale Church of Christ, is heading up this year’s decorating and celebration. In just a few days he has gained the support of not only his church, but the Midvale Baptist church, the Midvale pool board, The City of Midvale, Midvale Telephone Company, as well as volunteers from the community. This year, a perfect blue spruce tree that has stood in the Midvale park for many years, has been selected for our tree lighting ceremony, and hopefully will continue to be lighted for years to come.We have some of the decorations and lights from previous years, however more are needed. If you have outdoor decorations and/or lights that you would like to donate. They will be greatly appreciated. Donations can be left inside the back door off the Midvale Church of ChristWe will be meeting on Saturday, Nov. 30th, at 9 am at the Midvale Church of Christ, to decorate the tree and the town. Volunteers are welcome to join us. Let’s make this a big beautiful community event. We will have the tree lighting ceremony that same evening (Saturday, Nov. 30th) at 6 pm, with a short program. There will be cookies and hot chocolate following the program. Please join us, as we celebrate our community and share in the true spirit of Christmas.
