A Successful 7th Annual Bike Giveaway

Saturday, April 26th children of all ages showed up at Weiser’s Memorial Park to get a free bicycle. The Weiser Mountain Bike Club, Washington County Love Inc. and Weiser Memorial Hospital held their 7th annual Bike Giveaway & Donation.

Pam Burris with Love Inc. shared, “The way it usually works is people donate bikes to Love Inc. and then we pass them off to the Weiser Mountain Bike Club. Then they refurbish the bikes, get them all in good working order and looking good. Then once a year we do this Giveaway.”  It is important to the Mountain Bike Club and Love Inc. that the bike riders are being safe so every year Love Inc. along with Weiser Memorial Hospital purchase and donate helmets for each child who receives a bike from the Giveaway. The groups try to give away as many bikes as they can. This year they were able to fix up almost 70 bikes for the Giveaway. Although their main focus is childrens bikes, they do get adult bikes that they also fix and then give away at the yearly event.

Bikes are given away by a first come first serve basis and every year there is a great turn out. Burris shared that even though they open the event for a couple hours they rarely have bikes last past the first hour. Members from the organizations along with Weiser High Leo Club members were on hand to help fit children to helmets, fill paperwork out and help children pick out a bike.

The organizations collect bikes all year long and the club works on the bikes throughout the year to have them ready for annual Giveaway. The bikes are never sold and no profit is made from the bikes. All time and parts are donated. If you have a bike you would like to donate or funds you would like to put towards the purchase of parts and helmets you can contact Pam Burris with Love Inc. at  208-414-LOVE or drop donations off at the Weiser Love Inc. location at 722 West Idaho in Weiser.

Other sponsors of the Giveaway were, the Boy’s & Girls Club of Western Treasure Valley, JD’z Bike Shop and Meridian Cycles.
