When you see this column in print, it will be the last week of June, heading into the first week of July. Half of the year is already gone! I’m not sure why, but the realization always shocks me. Maybe because things are usually so busy that I don’t think about anything other than what I need to do next, and when I hit a slow spot and have the time for my mind to relax and wander, these little epiphanies are free to break through the noise barrier in my mind. It’s amazing how the mind works.
But I digress. We will be hosting a Split-the-Pot fundraiser from July 1st to July 31st. If you aren’t familiar with this type of fundraiser, we will be selling tickets for $1 each. At the end of the month, we will hold a drawing, and the winner will split the pot with the senior center. It’s a fundraiser we haven’t tried, but other senior centers have had success with. It will be fun to try something new.
On July 3rd, we will be having a BINGO game. This is a family night, and people of all ages are welcome. It will start at 6:00 PM and end at 8:00 PM. If you’re looking for a fun activity to do with your children or grandchildren, this is a perfect outing. Or if you just want to get out of the house for a few hours with your friends, it’s a fun activity. Light refreshments are provided.
I don’t want to get too far ahead of myself, so I will stop here and give you the menus for the end of June and the beginning of July.
Friday, June 27: Beef Barley Soup, Ham Sandwiches, Salad, Peaches, and Oatmeal cake.
Wednesday, July 2: Roasted Pork, Baked Yams, Garden Salad, Applesauce with cinnamon, Broccoli/Cauliflower vegetables, Whole Wheat Roll, and Chocolate chip cookies.
Friday, July 4: CLOSED for Independence Day!
Until next time, be healthy, be happy, and be grateful for your blessings! It’s the secret to a life well-lived.
