On August 27th, I filed my candidacy for a spot on city Council. For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Steve Fenske. I’ve been a resident of the City of Weiser for more than 35 years.
I’m a veteran of the Vietnam War and served on active duty during Desert Storm. I’ve served in two branches of our military, United States Air Force and the Army National Guard. I rose through the ranks and retired after 26 years of service at the rank of Major.
I graduated from Berea High school in Ohio back in 1969 prior to entering military service. I’m also a graduate of Treasure Valley Community College with an associate’s degree in liberal arts (emphasis in Criminal Justice). I furthered my education by attending Eastern Oregon College in LaGrande Oregon and graduating with a bachelor’s degree in science (with an emphasis in the area of Drug and Alcohol Treatment).
I served as a drug and alcohol counselor for Lifeway’s for three years and carried a CADC-1 certification. I continued working in the field of drug and alcohol prevention as an independent DUI evaluator for the state of Idaho for approximately four years.
I became a Weiser Police Officer in the Fall of 2005 and graduated from the POST Academy in 2006 achieving my Basic and Intermediate Certifications. I served as a patrolman, school resource officer, after school program coordinator, reserve officer and background investigator going on 20 years.
For over a past decade I’ve served as CEO and President of the Board of Directors for the nonprofit organization called Arrow-Heart Adventure Camps. Working with the community and parents to strengthen the characters of our local teens through the 6C’s of Leadership. I hope to bring the same leadership qualities to our city council when elected.
My wife Linda and I raised our three children in this fine community and are very proud of them. I believe that public service and safety within our community is paramount. As a prior School Resource Officer and Coordinator of the After School Program, I have worked hard to provide a pathway for our local teens to follow. I have devoted most of my time and energy to developing future leaders through Arrow-Heart Adventure camps. Hoping to live up to our city’s motto: “We Love Our Kids, Community and Country”
I have witnessed a slow progression of growth within our community and the need for future advancement. As your candidate, I hope to be your eyes, ears and voice to the city that we all love. I firmly believe that a community that supports and values the rights of others over self interest groups is important. I hope that you will join me on this journey to continue to make Weiser the gem of Washington County.
Thank you in advance for your vote and your support!
