A Bookshelf, by Quincy Clary

While driving on East Park Street in Weiser, you may have noticed a tiny light blue house in someone’s very own yard. It’s a bookshelf! This bookshelf belongs to the family of Kristie Lyman.

Kristie Lyman had decided to bring some joy and comfort for our community during last year’s pandemic. With this spirit in hand, she went straight to work. Doug Lyman, Kristies father-in-law, quickly took action into this project and built this shelf in a matter of weeks. Once the shelf was built, Kristie painted the shelf in a gorgeous light blue. Not only did Kristie bring joy with a bookshelf, but also completed a bunch of different tasks during lockdown. Kristie painted her house windows, planted colorful flowers, and lastly drew sidewalk chalk art in the driveway.

This bookshelf is easy to access by pulling over in front of the driveway without disrupting traffic. And not to mention, it’s free for everybody! People from any age are welcome to browse the shelf, take books, and leave books in return at any time. Kristie frequently rotates the bookshelf for new books to keep a fresh variety.

Kristies main goal with this book shelf is to build new relationships within this community, inspire kids to love reading, to provide adventures with books and to lastly bring joy to Weiser!
