Weiser School District Supplemental Levy 2022

The Weiser School District is asking voters who reside within the school district boundaries to approve or reject an extension of the two-year supplemental levy that passed in 2020. If approved the levy will generate $350,000 each year for the next two years. Those funds will be used by the district to assist with the continued purchase of updated and additional curriculum throughout the district, fund transportation to events for student athletes, provide for general and unplanned repairs and maintenance, help maintain and expand CTE programs, and help protect special programs and staffing from potential reductions.
This past year the district added another section of Ag. Science at WHS, expanded music offerings, and returned to offering a full-time kindergarten option for all kindergarten students. Although many school districts charge student-athletes a fee to help offset the cost of transportation to competitions, the WSD has so far been able to avoid such a fee.
We are grateful for the support our community has provided in the past and continuously strive to manage district resources in a responsible manner. We are committed to providing an outstanding educational experience for students – yet at a great value to our patrons.
Although our community has approved a supplemental school levy every two years since 2010, we have managed to keep school district taxes low compared to other districts in our area and around the state. The Weiser School District is currently the 38 th largest school district in Idaho, but we have the 94 th lowest levy rate among the 115 school districts statewide. Weiser has one of the lowest levy rates among districts of similar size in our area – currently $0.99 per thousand dollars (property value) compared to others in the Snake River Valley Conference. Parma, for example, collects $3.64 per thousand; Homedale ($3.68); Payette ($1.18); Fruitland ($0.87).
The proposed supplemental levy will replace the current levy which expires on June 30, 2022, and property owners are expected to see either see no overall increase or a small decrease in their annual property taxes should the levy be approved. The election will be held on March 8th , and patrons may vote at their regular polling locations from 8 am to 8 pm. We encourage you to exercise your right to vote.
