Ontario, Oregon – January 25, 2024
Community In Action, in Ontario, Oregon, conducted its annual Point-in-Time Count on Thursday, January 25, 2024, in an effort to gather crucial data for funding and policy development to address the unhoused population in Malheur County.
The Point-in-Time Count is a nationwide initiative, where communities meticulously assess their unhoused population to gauge prevalence in each local Continuum of Care. The data collected provides a “snapshot” of the unhoused population, offering insights into demographics and the overall scale of the issue. Specifically, the count approximates the number of individuals and families also experiencing emergency shelters and transitional housing.
In addition to contributing to the broader understanding these individuals and families in Malheur County, those who participated in the count at the Community In Action office were offered more than just a chance to provide valuable information. Participants received a warm meal and essential supplies, highlighting the organization’s commitment to supporting those facing housing insecurity.
