I have been running about a week ahead of time (in my mind) regarding our Hells Canyon Days Taco Feed. I always get a little “control crazy” when we have our fundraisers, wanting to make sure everything is “perfect” and that we have done everything we can to make it a “perfect” event. Of course, there is no “perfect”; you would think that after 80 years, I would have let that notion go. I blame it on the human condition; it’s how some of us are wired.
The good news is that I have an extra week, so I can relax and worry about a few other things on my to-do list. Right now, I’m enjoying these beautiful sunny, warm days with which we have been blessed. They seem “perfect” to me.
We have found the “perfect” gentleman to drive our van. His name is Russ Mattox. He has lived in Cambridge for the past two years and has prior experience as a firefighter and EMT. He will drive on weekdays, picking up seniors for lunch and dropping them back to their homes afterwards. He will also be taking seniors up to Council to do their banking and more shopping. He and Deana
(Our current bus driver) will be each other’s backup when the occasion arises; I will be the backup’s backup. Welcome Russ!
For those who knew Elsie Coburn, her memorial service will be held this Saturday, May 31st, at 11 a.m., at the Cambridge Bible Church on Cemetery Road. Elsie and her husband Jack have been members of the Cambridge Senior Center since I started here over 20 years ago..
Elsie was a faithful volunteer at all of our fundraisers and during lunchtime. Her beautiful soul shone in all its glory when she smiled, which she did frequently. I’ve never known her to be in a bad or grumpy mood. She was always willing to help others and lived her faith through her actions. Elsie, thank you for your years of service to the seniors and your community. You are missed.
