Cambridge Senior Chatter

By Nate Estes

I don’t know what it is about cloudy, rainy weather, but I have been so unmotivated.   All I have wanted to do is putz around the house, nap, read, or watch TV.  Luckily, the sun came out this afternoon, and it was so bright that I couldn’t sleep.  I decided to go to work and write my column.  That’s one of the nice things about living alone: I can choose to do what I want when I want, and if I make a wrong decision, no one pays for it but me.

If you believe all that malarky, I may have a bridge you might be interested in, but right now, it’s on more relevant topics.  It’s the end of the month, and I have reports due within five days, so it’s my usual crunch time.  It’s also the first week in April and time for our monthly community BINGO game.  The game will be held on Thursday, April 3, from 6 to 8 p.m.  Everyone is welcome.  There are light refreshments and prizes for the winners.  Join us!

Our monthly board meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 9, at one thirty in the afternoon. Before that, though, the Nutritionist will visit us and check to make sure that we are following the rules.  Most of this burden falls on Ursula’s shoulders, but ultimately, the buck stops with me.

I’m thankful that Ursula has always taken her job responsibilities seriously. We have not had any significant tissues in the past twenty years, so it’s been a real blessing to me that I’ve not had to worry when we have inspections.

Our monthly Food Pantry is on Wednesday, April 16, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. The monthly shopping trip to Ontario is on Thursday, April 17. It’s an all-day affair. They usually stop for lunch, so if you’re going, bring extra cash to treat yourself to a meal you didn’t have to cook.

Our monthly Foot clinic is on Monday, April 28. Appointments start at 9 a.m. If you are interested, call me at 208-257-3358.

I’m still looking for someone who would like to drive our van to pick up members for lunch and return them to their homes afterward. It’s a paid position that will require about 5 hours of your time each week. You must have a valid Idaho driver’s license and a clean driving record. If you are such a person or know of someone who would be interested, please give me a call here at the senior center: 208-257-3358. I’m waiting to talk to you!

     MENU:

Friday, April, 4:  Chili con Carne, Cornbread, Garden Salad, Mixed Fruit and Ugly Duckling Pudding Cake.

Wednesday, April 9:  Sweet and Sour Chicken, Rice, Green Beans, Mixed Fruit, Garden Salad, Wheat Roll, and Zucchini Bars.

Friday, April 11:  Costco All Beef Quarter pound Hot dogs, Hot dog buns, Sauerkraut, French Fries, Green Salad, Peaches, and Dessert.

Have a great week, everyone!
