Melissa was recently recognized by the Boise State University College of Education for her work as a mentor at Pioneer Elementary School where she has taught for the last 7 years. The “Celebration of Teaching – Mentor of the Year” program is sponsored by BSU and several partner organizations. The program honors up to 20 teachers and school counselors who guide, support and encourage fellow educators in their pursuit of effective teaching, counseling and professional growth. The program, which started in 2011, has become an annual awards program. In 2013 Pioneer Early Childhood Teacher, Patty Miller received the award. Melissa was treated to a banquet at the Stueckle Sky Center on the BSU campus and was given a crystal apple and a check for $500 to honor her work. Melissa has taught in the Weiser School District for 16 years. She started
her career at Park School where she taught 4th and 5th grade and worked as the district Gifted and Talented Coordinator. According to her nomination, “Melissa cheerfully makes herself available to anyone in need, and NEVER allows anyone to feel as though it is a burden. She is willing to offer advice to those who seek help, yet she never comes across as demanding, pushy, or judgmental. She understands the importance of cooperation and teamwork, and represents a positive influence on her team.” Congratulations Melissa!
