Dr. Larry Stoune Award Presentation at Hands Across The Park For Recovery – Lifeways

Dr. Larry Stoune was born in Illinois. He was well educated & well traveled, having attended Shattuck Military Academy (Minnesota), obtaining his bachelor’s degree in biochemistry (Lawrence University – Wisconsin), he attended St. Louis University School of Medicine, and completed his residency program (Cleveland, Ohio) serving as a physician in the United States Air Force, & spending time as an Internal Medicine doctor on the Scott Air Force Base (O’Fallon, Illinois). Larry relocated to Ontario, Oregon in 1991 and continued his medical practice locally. In addition to Internal Medicine, Larry completed a Certificate in Addiction Medicine in 2009 and became a forerunner in the treatment of addiction. Dr. Stoune was a kind and honest soul dedicated to his recovery and supporting others in recovery. He helped to implement one of the first methadone clinics in our community, spent countless hours in the ER supporting and encouraging those struggling with addiction to begin their recovery journeys, he attended and facilitated local and professional AA meetings, and led his community by his example. Larry was a true recovery hero whose memory will be honored and reflected in the nominees and award winner of the Dr. Larry Stoune Recovery Award. Larry passed away in 2011 “To leave a legacy of love and truth is the greatest accomplishment.” Dr. Stoune lived his life full of generosity and other exemplary qualities. All individuals nominated and selected for this honorary award display the following qualities: are in sustained recovery for a minimum of 5 years. Are working to better Malheur County. Are selfless and humble champions for recovery. Live by example. Be a strong advocate and ally for the recovery community.
