Four years ago, I committed to running the Love INC winter coat ministry through St. Agnes Catholic Church. With my husband, John, and a small group of faithful and hardworking volunteers from various churches, we have been collecting and distributing coats ever since. The Weiser community is very generous in donating coats, mostly used but sometimes new.
At our giveaway a couple of years ago, two little girls (about five or six years old) were given brand new pink coats. They were so excited that they were twirling around the hall, arms spread out, flashing huge smiles. It really touched me and I thought how wonderful it would be if we could give every child in need a new coat.
I wrote the Weiser Elks Lodge this past February outlining my dream and asked for a $1,000 donation. In April, once their grant year opened, I got a call from Elk Matt Smith and together we worked up a plan. When Elk Matt told me he would try for $3,000, I almost fell off my chair. Last week, I got the call that not only was the $3,000 approved but the check had arrived!
I would like to thank the Weiser Elks for their generosity and commitment to our community. A special thanks to Elk Matt Smith for making this dream happen.Â
