His kindness, wisdom, and gentle spirit touched the lives of all who knew him, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Born on December 4th, 1935, in Riverside, Oregon, Eugene lived a life filled with purpose and generosity. From a young age, he had an extraordinary ability to bring joy to others— whether through his infectious laughter, compassionate heart, or steadfast determination. He embraced every moment with grace and an unyielding appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.

Eugene graduated from Weiser High School in 1954, setting the foundation for a life of dedication and hard work. A true pioneer, he established the first American farm in Washington County, showcasing his commitment to agriculture and innovation. His passion for farming was a reflection of his deep connection to the land and his dedication to building something lasting for future generations.

Throughout his career, Eugene devoted 20 years of service to McKnight and Symes before continuing his journey at Oregon Portland Cement. As the chief electrician for two decades, he became a respected leader in his field, known for his skill, perseverance, and integrity. On September 30th, 1998, he retired, leaving behind a legacy of excellence and craftsmanship that shaped the lives of those who worked alongside him.

Among his greatest joys was his family. Eugene cherished his time with his children, grandchildren, and family members, finding happiness in every moment spent together. He was a devoted father to his four children—Larry, Debbie, Mike, and Robin—and a loving grandfather to eight grandchildren—Benjamine, Tami, Melissa, Kevin, K.C., Christina, Leighton, and Janzen. His family was the heart of his world, and he adored watching them grow, offering wisdom, support, and unconditional love. Eugene was also blessed with several great-grandchildren, whose laughter and energy brought him immense joy.

Eugene was preceded in death by Luvina Marlene Vertner, the love of his life. Their bond was one of deep devotion, strength, and unwavering love. They shared a lifetime of memories, laughter, and a profound connection that will forever be cherished by all who knew them.

Throughout his life, Eugene embodied resilience and grace, facing challenges with an unwavering spirit and an enduring optimism. Even in difficult times, he remained a pillar of strength, teaching others the power of perseverance and the importance of kindness. His ability to lift others up, even when faced with his own struggles, was a testament to his remarkable character.

Eugene is survived by his loving family, who will continue to carry his love forward, honoring his memory in the way they live, love, and give.

A celebration of his life was held on June 15th, 2025, at Memorial Park in Weiser, ID, where friends and family will gather to share stories, reminisce about joyful times, and honor the beautiful life he lived. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to Horizon Home Health and Hospice, ensuring that his legacy of kindness continues to make a difference in the lives of others.

The family would like to especially thank Horizon Home Health for the wonderful care that was given to Eugene,

“The beauty of a life well lived is that its impact never fades—it remains in the hearts of those who loved him, carried forward in the stories, laughter, and kindness shared in his honor.”
