Fire on the Roof of the Fry Foods Facility

Ontario Fire & Rescue Press Release

On August 31, at approximately 10:15 PM, Ontario Rural Fire Protection District (ORFPD) was dispatched for a fire on the roof of the Fry Foods facility, located at 602 Stanton Blvd. ORFPD requested a general page for additional firefighters to respond. Ontario 100 (incident command) arrived at the scene first to find smoke coming from the roof on the west side, near the center of the facility. 100 contacted an employee of the facility and asked them to shut down power and gas to the facility. Ontario Rescue One arrived with a crew of three and made access to the roof, finding an active fire burning within the roof membrane. 100 requested mutual aid from Vale and Fruitland. An engine and a tender from ORFPD responded and assisted with fire suppression. Crews were able to successfully stop the fire that was located just above and around several anhydrous ammonia pipes and tanks. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. In total, three engines, one tender, and one ladder truck staffed by seventeen firefighters took part in the operation.
