It’s that time of the year where we need to start thinking about the Fourth of July Annual Fireworks Show put on by the Weiser City Fire Volunteer Association.
Each year we try to do a fund raiser to raise money for this event to shoot off fireworks on the 4th of July. Last year and this year we were unable to hold our annual Fundraiser Breakfast for the community to come out and support.
Last year our friends at Country Financial started a post on Facebook and it went crazy with the amount of support that we got. We are planning on doing the same thing this year with the hopes of going back to doing a fundraiser next year.
Each year the Firefighters Association raises money for the Fireworks. This is not part of the City Fires yearly budget. The City helps with a donation to the Association to help buy the fireworks for both the 4th of July as well as the fireworks for the Christmas Parade. All money raised goes towards BOTH events.
We purchase fireworks once a year. Some people thought in the past that the money for the fireworks came out of the yearly Fire budget and didn’t understand why we were trying to raise money.
Last year was the most that we have spent on fireworks. We spent around $8000 for both shows last year. We raised more money, so we decided to try to make the show bigger. We increased the amount of shells by around 200 from years past. This year will be the same. Our goal is to raise at least $8000 and we would love to increase the show each year a little at a time with the hopes of getting more of the bigger shells to light off.
We are taking a close look at what shells we purchase this year as we had some that hardly went very high last year and were hard to see. The company that we purchase the fireworks from are great to work with so this shouldn’t be a problem. We want the money raised to go to the best show that we can provide, and we hope that each year we can improve on it a little.
