A few months back Livinginthenews.com shared how the Four County Art Guild and Weiser Classic Candy teamed up to promote local artists, including students. Weiser Classic Candy proudly displays the artist’s work on their south wall inside their shop.
This month’s local artist is Jade Van Ness, the Weiser Middle School Art teacher. She works in watercolor, a combination of ink and colored pencils, and photography. Her work will be on display until July 19th. Guild member Susan Pritchar stated, “It’s a great display though, if you get a chance to stop in.”
Artist Biography:
Hi there! Thank you for checking out my work. My name is Jade Van Ness, and I am a local teacher, photographer, and artist. I have lived and taught in Weiser for the last ten years.
Growing up 15 miles outside of the small town of Pilot Rock, Oregon, I lived a simple and adventurous life. However, much of my time was spent drawing. I can say I was easily inspired by my mother at a young age. As I grew up watching her design and construct elaborate creations such as drawings, quilts, clothing, jewelry, and many other crafts.
Throughout school I continued drawing. I always knew I wanted to pursue a degree in design of some sort, but after considering various art and design careers, I took my secondary education in a totally different direction and entered Elementary Education. I graduated from Boise State University in 2012 with my bachelors degree and began teaching third grade at Pioneer School in Weiser shortly after. For six years, I enjoyed teaching third grade until a position opened at Weiser Middle School. I knew this was my opportunity to combine my two worlds of teaching and creating. I have been teaching art at the middle school now for the last four years and I absolutely love it!
My favorite art medium would be watercolor, and most of what I do these days includes ink and colored pencil. As well, I love creating unique, colorful portraits. This goes for photographs too.
The photography started developing several years ago. After having my first daughter, I picked up a camera for my own candids and it developed into something more elaborate a couple years ago. I now do photography on the side of teaching when I can find the time. Fine art portraits is what I love most, and will hopefully find more opportunities to offer it in our area. Otherwise, I primarily specialize in graduating senior portraits, but find myself doing other niches of photography as well.
