Garold Dean Dick- Obituary

Garold Dean Dick, age 94, passed away peacefully with family by his side on the evening of Tuesday, October 22nd, 2024. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 2nd at Thomason Funeral Home in Weiser.

Garold was born January 20th, 1930, to Bill and Fern Dick in Republican City, NE. The family moved to Weiser in 1944 where they farmed.

Garold joined the Army in 1951, completed boot camp and shortly after married the love of his life, Carol Peterson on August 1st of the same year. He honorably served in the Korean War.  Upon his return, he bought his first and only home in Weiser where he resided until his passing.  They were blessed with three wonderful sons, Mike, Doug, and Gary. He operated his farm on their property until he was 65. In 1995, due to health issues, Garold leased the farmland to family friend, Stuart Syme and drove beet truck for him for 24 years. Garold and Carol loved to travel and spent most of their winters in Yuma, AZ. They renewed their vows after 50 years of marriage, shortly before Carol’s passing in 2001. He continued to winter in AZ for another 13 years.

Garold enjoyed being part of the community. He served for four years as County Commissioner in Washington County and served on the board of Weiser Valley Highway District for several years.

Garold was a quiet man and friend of many. He loved sharing stories of hunting, travel adventures and time spent serving his country. His family and friends will miss him dearly.

Garold is survived by his sister Darla (Darwin) Adams, three sons, Mike (Nancy), Doug (Julia), and Gary (Angie); five grandchildren, Courtney (Jesse), Greg, Eric (Brandi), Garrett, Erica (Michael) and five great grandchildren.

Garold was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Fern; wife, Carol; infant son, Mark and two brothers, Danny and Doyle.

The family would like to thank Shawna Slyter, Signature Home Health, and the many employees at Indian Head Estates for the wonderful care they gave to Garold in his last days.
