#GivingTuesday and Volunteerism in Action: Mr. Rowley Makes 500th Blanket for Angel Wings Network in Weiser

When you think of volunteering, what comes to mind first? You might think of helping in a soup kitchen, baking cookies for a church bake sale, or delivering food to a pantry. But did you know there are many other ways to volunteer that are equally important and benefit the community and society as a whole?

Volunteering helps to strengthen communities by supporting causes and organizations that make it a better place to live. Volunteers bring their own special skills and ideas to help develop better ways of fulfilling a purpose. Volunteering promotes inclusion, active engagement, and improves confidence in people. There are opportunities to make new friends, develop your own skills, and gain experience in new areas.

#GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement that encourages people to give back to communities by volunteering, making a donation, or using the power of your voice to create positive change. The idea behind #GivingTuesday is to contribute an act of generosity no matter how big or small.

A shining example of volunteerism in action is Mr. Ralph Rowley, retired schoolteacher, who lives in Weiser, Idaho, and volunteers much of his time making prayer blankets for Angel Wings Network, Inc. For the past 2.5 years, Mr. Rowley has dedicated his free time to cutting and tying fleece blankets that are given to newly diagnosed cancer patients through the local nonprofit. Mr. Rowley recently reached his goal of making 500 blankets! He is the epitome of what a SUPER volunteer looks like.
Angel Wings Network is so proud to have volunteers like Mr. Rowley but also folks who contribute in other ways: monetary donations, in-kind donations, event support, and more.

#GivingTuesday is about encouraging acts of generosity and kindness in all forms. As part of their Year-End Giving, Angel Wings is running a fundraiser campaign called “Wrap a Cancer Patient in Love”, which is focused on raising funds for the Prayer Blanket Program.

On December 3rd, 2024, Angel Wings staff and volunteers invite you to contribute to this campaign to help them reach their goal of raising $5,000. That sounds like a lot of money just for blankets, right? But check this out: in 2023, Angel Wings gifted 177 blankets for a total value of over $13,000! That is 177 cancer patients who received a cozy fleece blanket made by Mr. Rowley! Now they need YOUR help to support this program by making a donation toward this campaign.
