Illustrious Onion Skin Players Prepare for Milestone 40th Show

For nearly four decades, the Illustrious Onion Skin Players have brought the charm and whimsy of the 1890s back to life with their annual melodramas. As they gear up for their 40th performance, we sat down with some of the key players who’ve been part of this long-running tradition. Each March, the group transports audiences to a time of slapstick humor, larger-than-life villains, heroic underdogs, and old-fashioned fun. They perform their unique style of 1890s melodrama over the first three weekends of the month at the historic Star Theater, located in the heart of downtown Weiser, Idaho. The show features everything from dramatic plot twists to lively olio acts, complete with the famous Can-Can girls, making it a family-friendly spectacle that keeps the audience laughing until they cry. Performing since 1985, the Onion Skin Players have made it their mission to keep the spirit of the old Wild West alive, and each year, they do so with their own special flair. With a mix of comedy, music, and audience interaction, they’ve created a one-of-a-kind experience that draws theatergoers back year after year. For 33 years, the group has called the Star Theater its home—a historical gem at 322 State Street that has served as the perfect backdrop for their lively performances. The Star Theater’s timeless charm has been the stage for countless nights of joy and laughter, and the Onion Skin Players are honored to continue bringing their melodramas to life within its storied walls. If you haven’t yet seen a performance, you’re in for a treat. The Illustrious Onion Skin Players are not just putting on a show; they are continuing a proud tradition, offering a glimpse into the past while creating timeless memories for all who attend. Don’t miss out on this magical experience!
