Payette, Idaho – Over the weekend, inmates at the Payette County Jail forcibly breached a secured door between Pod 100 and Pod 200. The incident appears to have stemmed from an inmate in Pod 200 attempting to confront an inmate housed in Pod 100. These individuals had been intentionally separated. The jail’s limited capacity and facility options for inmate housing and separation made the confrontation possible once the door was compromised.
The breach was discovered quickly by jail staff, who acted to regain control of the affected areas. No staff injuries were reported. The incident caused structural damage to the door, which is currently under repair. An internal investigation is underway, and additional security measures are being evaluated to prevent similar incidents in the future. Until the door is repaired, the Sheriff’s Office is working to manage the jail’s already constrained space and resources.
Sheriff Andy Creech issued the following statement:
“Our staff responded quickly and professionally to contain the situation and ensure safety within the facility. Their actions prevented further escalation, and we remain committed to protecting both staff and inmates.”
The Payette County Sheriff’s Office will provide further updates as the investigation continues.
