Grassroots community radio is coming to the Western Treasure Valley! Four Rivers Community Radio (FRCR) is a new, Ontario-based 501c3 nonprofit organization. In August 2022, FRCR obtained a permit from the Federal Communications Commission to create a nonprofit FM radio station in the area. The group is inviting input from the community to help create and inform the programming that it will produce and broadcast.
“Those of us who live in this area know that there is a lot of culture that just needs a forum to get out into the world,” said station president Billy Carter. “There are currently no television or radio stations that focus on this area. We hope the station will help fill some of the gaps.”
The fledgling organization plans to broadcast non-commercial cultural and educational programming and expects its signal will reach the communities of Ontario, Payette, Fruitland, Weiser, Nyssa, Vale, and New Plymouth. The station will feature a mix of talk radio and music programming and are seeking volunteers who are interested in hosting talk or music shows.
Once operational, the station will broadcast on the 90.7 FM frequency and use call letters KRFR (as in “K-Radio-Four-Rivers”). They are in the planning phase for construction of a radio tower and expect to begin fundraising later this year, with a goal of being on the air beginning early 2025.
In order to better understand what kind of programming will be of interest to the community the station is actively soliciting input from its listening area. They are asking anyone interested to go to their website and complete its Community Interest Survey, at www.frcradio.org or visit the following link 4RCR Survey-English (for Spanish Encuesta 4RCR- Español). The organization is also looking for volunteers who wish to get involved and help the station during its launch phase as well as ongoing operation. Info about the station is also available on Facebook and Instagram. People interested in volunteering or learning more are encouraged to email the station at info@frcradio.org
