A unique bond spanning over five decades continues to thrive as a group of seven students from Ōsakasayama, Japan, wraps up their adventurous 13 day visit to Ontario, Oregon.
This cultural exchange program, organized by the Ontario Sister City Committee, highlights the enduring friendship between these two cities since their partnership began in 1973.
During their stay, the students engaged in a variety of activities designed to immerse them in local culture and foster international understanding. Their schedules were packed with events, thanks in large part to the meticulous planning of committee members and the generosity of host families like Bob and Janet Komoto, who opened their homes to these young ambassadors of Japan.
Today, the students were treated to a delightful experience at Weiser Classic Candy in nearby Weiser, Idaho. Patrick Nauman, owner and tour guide, showcased the candy-making process, with insights into the sweet treats that have become a local favorite.

Each student left with a goody bag filled with samples, adding a sugary touch to their memorable visit.
The sister city relationship between Ontario and Ōsakasayama is not just about tourism; it serves as a platform for learning and exchange. The partnership promotes cultural appreciation, allowing American and Japanese citizens to deepen their understanding of each other’s customs and traditions through firsthand experiences.

As the students prepare to return to Japan, they carry with them not only memories but also valuable lessons about friendship, respect, and the beauty of cultural diversity.
This exchange is a testament to the power of global connections and the positive impact of community driven efforts to bridge gaps between different cultures.
