Payette County Sheriff’s Office Arrests 15-year-old After Uncovering Plot to Commit an Act of Violence at School

New Plymouth, ID – The Payette County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a 15-year-old after an investigation that found he had plans to use a firearm on school grounds.

On September 19, 2024 Payette County Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation after we were provided information from the Oregon State Police.

The Payette County Sheriff’s Office worked in partnership with the Oregon State Police, FBI, and Payette County Prosecutor to pursue charges related to this investigation.

The juvenile made his first court appearance today, October 15, 2024 at the Payette County Magistrate Court. He is being held without bond.

We understand that this news is unsettling for parents and students of Payette County. The Sheriff’s Office is committed to ensuring the safety of our schools, students, and teachers. The Sheriff’s Office and its investigators are confident this was an isolated incident and we have addressed that concern. We are grateful to the individuals who brought this information to our attention and assisted us during the investigation.

Payette County Sheriff’s Office charged the 15-year-old student with violations of the Terrorist Control Act (Felony), Aggravated Assault – Attempt to Commit Violent Injury (Felony), Possession of Sexually Exploitative Material (Felony), and Threatening Violence on School Grounds (Misdemeanor).
