Public Safety Alert – Credit/Debit & EBT Card Fraud

Ontario Police Department Press Release

The Ontario Police Department has recently taken several reports of fraud involving credit cards, debit cards, and EBT cards. These cases are believed to be connected to skimming devices placed on machines at local grocery stores and businesses.

For Ontario Business Owners:
We ask all businesses that use debit/credit or EBT card machines to regularly inspect your devices for tampering or the presence of skimming devices. If you find anything suspicious or believe a skimmer may be in use, please contact Dispatch immediately at 541-473-5125 and report it.

What You Can Do to Protect Yourself:
Regularly check your bank and EBT account statements for unauthorized charges. Use ATMs or payment terminals inside banks or well-lit businesses when possible. Before using a card reader, wiggle the card slot or keypad, if it feels loose or looks suspicious, do not use it. Set up transaction alerts through your bank or card provider.

Your vigilance helps protect yourself and your fellow community members.
