Weiser, ID- In a small corner of Hillcrest Cemetery sits a little columbarium with niches for loved ones’ ashes. On a recent visit Jan Mullins noticed the deterioration of that space and wanted to find a way to fix and revitalize the space. “It was pretty neglected and has been here for about twenty years. Hardly anyone knows they have a niche for human ashes,” stated Mullins.
She contacted the LOR Foundation and learned that her plan for updating the columbarium was a perfect community project. With the help of others Mullins wrote up the grant and submitted the plans for the project and was awarded a grant for almost $7,000. Mullins shared, “It’s been a process, but the Cemetery board has been really lovely helping me out with the idea and are very supportive. We got the grant and we are proceeding with the project. I am really excited about it. It is going to be really nice when it’s finished.”

When complete the space will have stamped concrete work done by J2 Concrete Inc. (208)739-6729), benches for sitting, granite vases for flowers and a solar light that will spotlight the columbarium in the evening.
