Sheriff’s Office Commends First Felony Jury Trial Conviction in Washington County Since 2016

Washington County Sheriff’s Office Press Release

Weiser, Idaho — The Washington County Sheriff’s Office commends the successful prosecution of a major felony case resulting in a guilty verdict on May 14, 2025—the first felony jury trial conviction in Washington County since 2016.

This case was of critical importance to law enforcement. The defendant led officers on a high-speed pursuit through Washington County, including along Highway 95, reaching speeds over 115 miles per hour on icy winter roads. The reckless actions put the lives of law enforcement and civilians at serious risk.

The case was prosecuted by Washington County Prosecutor True Pearce and Deputy Prosecutor Sean Jorgensen. Deputy Kip Hicks of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office served as the lead case officer, and his testimony—along with the testimony of additional deputies from Washington and Payette Counties—was instrumental in securing the conviction.

“This case highlights the strong partnership between our deputies and the Prosecutor’s Office,” said Sheriff Matt Thomas. “We’re proud of the work done by our team and grateful to Prosecutor Pearce and Deputy Prosecutor Jorgensen for presenting a compelling case to the jury. This verdict sends a strong message that endangering our community and officers will not be tolerated.”

The Sheriff’s Office thanks all involved law enforcement personnel and the citizens who served on the jury. Justice was served through dedication, cooperation, and professionalism.
