Six Weiser High Teams Compete at the VEX State Robotics Competition

Friday, March 7th the Idaho State Vex Robotics Competition was held at Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa, Idaho. The following six robotics teams from Weiser High competed at the event, 9551A H.I.V.E., 9551B X4-FORCE, 9551C J-5 ALIVE, 9551D Moxxi, 9551F Circuit Breakers, and 9551G W.E.A.B. Shane Bush, a sophomore on team 9551A H.I.V.E shared, “Robotics is a fun and hard-working activity and Robotics State is no exception. It’s hard and tiring, but it is ultimately enjoyable.”

Thirty-one teams competed through the qualification bracket battling it out to hopefully get a place and alliance in the tournament bracket. Team 9951B X4-Force, 9551C J-5 Alive and 9551D Moxxi all made it into the tournament, but they and their alliances were unable to get past the first round. Anthony Conner, a freshman coder from team 9551G W.E.A.B., shared his thoughts on what he took away from his first year in robotics and his experience at the State Robotics Competition stating, “We tried our best. We can improve a lot.” He also shared about his desire to improve himself and that coding the Autonomous function is difficult.

Vex Robotics is a continuing learning experience from the ground level of robotics coding to working with new alliances during matches. Each team walks away from every competition with something new they have learned and will use that newly gained knowledge for the next match, competition or next year’s goals. “I am very proud of our Wolverine Robotics students for the way they competed in the state tournament.  All of the teams worked very hard to get to and prepare for this tournament. They all had great attitudes and gave their best. Each team improved tremendously from our first tournament. I think they learned a lot, made a bunch of new friends and had some fun. It was a very successful day”, stated Jon Lundberg, the Weiser High Robotics coach.
