Veterans Organization in Weiser to Support Local Heroes

An organization dedicated to honoring and supporting veterans is growing in Washington County.

The Washington County Veterans group aims to strengthen community ties and provide essential resources for local veterans and active-duty military personnel.

This group is committed to enhancing the lives of those who have served by organizing various programs and events, including celebrations at Weiser Schools for Veterans Day and the Independence Day Veterans March on July 4th. Members of the organization also serve as an Honor Guard for parades, community events, and funerals, ensuring that every veteran receives the recognition they deserve.

Each month, the group gathers at the Veterans Memorial Hall, which is better known as the Weiser Little Theater, located at 405 East 2nd Street.

Meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of every month at 10:00 AM, excluding December, with select evening meetings announced on “Living In The News.” These monthly gatherings not only serve as a platform for planning upcoming events but also foster a sense of camaraderie and support among members.

“We want to make sure that we all have each other’s six,” said Alex Chavarria, referencing military slang that emphasizes the importance of looking out for one another.

In addition to community events, the Washington County Veterans organization is actively working to establish a nonprofit to better serve veterans in the area. The goal is to provide more comprehensive resources and assistance tailored to the unique needs of local veterans.

Active duty personnel, veterans, and those who wish to support the cause are encouraged to join the group. In doing so, they can contribute to the growing support network that seeks to uplift and honor those who have bravely defended our freedoms.

For more information about the Washington County Veterans organization or how to get involved, residents can text Jana Hill at (503) 804-6231 or check out their new Facebook Group, “Washington County Veterans”.

Together, the community can ensure that its veterans receive the respect and support they deserve.
