Our 8th grade boys basketball team is phenomenal. These boys are playing at highschool level and are just 13- 14 years old. Their team consists of 10 players and each of them is extremely talented, but as a team they are nearly unstoppable. Weisers 8th graders have won every single game except against Homedale. These boys have been on Homedale’s heels both times they have played them.
Coming up to our district tournament these boys are really excited and ready to kick some butt. Xander Gray says ”He is excited to go into the tournament xseeded 2nd but Fruitland is a tough team and will take a lot of effort to get to the championship game.” These boys really are a special team and have done tremendous things this year to get to this point where they look at their next game against Fruitland.
The starters were Xander Gray who was their jumper, Isa Herrera ,the center, Karsten Walker, another center, Josh Mizar, a point guard, and Kolin Cook, another point guard. All of these boys have the potential to be great and do great things apart, but together they could be special. Josh Mizar is the shooter and probably the best shooter they got, he can hit a shot from anywhere on the court. Kolin Cook is also a shooter but is like the leader of the team when he has a good game, the team has a tremendous game. That’s enough about the little guys, let’s talk about the big guys. Isa Herrera and Karsten Walker changed the game for them. Without the big guys grabbing rebounds and putting it back up they might not have had as much success this season. While those guys are in pretty much different groups, Xander Gray is just doing it all. He is a big guy that can handle the ball and shoot like its nobody’s business.
All in all, these boys have a special team that really knows how to work together. I am blown away by how good these guys played together at the age of 13 and 14. I would be surprised if none of these boys went big because they are mind-blowing athletes that have it going for them.
